by Andy Cormack

As they gear up for their year-end tournament on Sat. March 3 in Wiarton, the RKS Bantam Girls put together back to back solid efforts against Markdale.

In the first game on Wed. Feb. 15, Hannah Kanmacher was in perfect position to tap in a rebound off of a shot from Lilly Starling to give the girls an early 1-0 lead.  After a scoreless second period, Markdale scored early in the third to make the final 1-1.  Charlene Sullivan was terrific in the net and made numerous game saving stops.
In the second game on Sunday Feb. 19, the girls were firing on all cylinders, outshining the stars 4-1.  Lilly Starling utilized a hard, accurate shot in earning a hat trick, scoring a goal in each period.  Credited with an assist on her first goal was Hannah Kanmacher, while AP Courtney Borgford dug the puck free for Starling to get her third.  Between Starling's second and third goal, Emily Cormack used her speed to break free of the Markdale defenders to go five-hole.  Carolyn Gray made a perfect pass to set Cormack free, earning her the assist.
The girls will next play Kincardine in Tiverton on Sat. Feb. 25, at 5:30.  That will be their final regular season game.
