MIDGET REP GIRLS TAKE STRATFORD TOURNEY
The Walkerton Kinnette Midget Rep girls kept their strong season going by winning the Stratford tournament.

  In their first game, they defeated Mitchell 5-2. The Kinnette girls jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 2 periods. Hayley"Hails" Fischer led the attack with 2 goals with Janelle"Jiggs" Weber notching the other. Faith Yensen, with 2, and Jamie Van Loon collected the assists.Mitchell narrowed the score to 3-1 early in the third only to have Shae Busby, from Sarah Durrer, and Katrina"Trudy" Young assisted by Marielle"Missy" Adams, stretch their lead to 5-1. Mitchell potted a late goal against winning goalie Maddie Elliott to finish the scoring.

  Their second game placed Walkerton against the Norfolk ‘C’ team. The Kinnette girls again jumped out to an early lead on goals from Shae, assisted by Sarah and Missy, in the first period, and Yensen, from Hails and Jocelyn"Joce" King, in the second. Norfolk narrowed the score to 2-1, with a goal just 18 seconds after Yensen’s goal. Despite taking over 18 minutes in penalties, Norfolk kept the game close until Shae scored her second of the game, Jamie assisting, to seal the 3-1 win. Maddie earned her second win.

   Tillsonburg supplied Walkerton the next opposition. With a playoff berth in the books, the Kinnette girls wanted to send a message to the rest of the teams they were here to win their division. Sarah got Walkerton off on the right ‘skate’ midway through the first with a beautiful goal, assisted by Jamie. Tillsonburg tied the game in the second with a power play goal but the Walkerton girls kept up their relentless attack, along with tireless back check and were rewarded in the third period when Sarah got her second of the game, assisted by Shae and Missy, to give Walkerton a hard fought 2-1 win. Maddie again collected the win in net.

  This gave Walkerton first place in their pool and pitted them against Saugeeen Shores in the semi’s on Sunday. Walkerton dominated the play through the first period and carried that on into the second when Ashton"Ash" Nixon finally burst the Saugeen Shores goalie’s bubble with a power play goal. Jiggs and Jessica"Ducky" Dettman collected the assists. Walkerton’s “D” led by Jessica"Mo" Schmalz, Alyssa"Lyss" Becker, Lauren"Bizz" McLean, Jiggs and Joce  kept the Saugeen girls at bay and helped Maddie collect the shutout in a 1-0 win.

  Milverton provided the opposition in the finals. The girls came out hopping in this one with a little help from a “Johnny Cash tune” and they hit the ice like a “ring of fire” and scored the all important first goal. Ducky, with a nice deke provided the goal with Bizz getting the assist. Ash upped the score to 2-0, Ducky assisting, only to have Milverton make 2-1 heading to the third. Ducky notched her second of the game, Ash and Trudy with assists, midway through the third give Walkerton a little breathing room and then Young salted the victory away, Bizz assisting, to make the final 4-1 and giving the girls their second tournament championship of the season. Maddie collected her 5th straight win.
