Atom Rep Girls Battle Back For A Win
The Knights of Columbus Girls worked hard all game and battled right until the bitter end of the game to come up with a well deserved victory.
The Walkerton team faced off against a strong and improved Normanby team. Normandy started off fast from the first face off and managed to get two goals in the first period. Walkerton kept firing shot after shot towards the net but met up with a strong goalie who made many terrific saves.
Walkerton was kept off of the scoresheet until the final minute of the second period when Samantha H managed to get one past the Normanby goalie. That goal rallied the team for the third period.
The third period was end to end action and Walkerton was eager to tie the game up. With time winding down and the action getting more intense, the Normanby team called a time out. This also gave the Walkerton team time to make a strategy. It seemed to have worked.
With the Walkerton net empty all skaters headed towards the Normanby net. Standing out in front of the net was Emma F. She received a pass from Sophie B and Brooke S to tie the game up at 2-2. Not only was it exciting that Emma F scored the tying goal but is was also her first career goal that she has been working hard for all season. This goal was scored with less than two minutes left in the game and both teams and fans thought the game would end in a tie.
But Walkerton had other plans and wanted to go for the win. With only 29 seconds left in the game, Sophie B received a pass from a scramble at the side of the net. She was all alone in front of the net and raised the puck to the top shelf to secure a win for the home team. Final score was 3-2 for Walkerton.
