going out with a bang.
A story of 14 young men with their hearts on their sleeves.
With one game left for the boys from walkerton to seal their fates in the woaa championship there was nothing but despiration in their eyes. With a final matchup with bayfield starting on a sunday morning the boys were ready. Coming out of the gate with an all out attack on the unprepaired bayfield team firing at least a dozen shots in the first 10 minutes but were unable to beat the tender.
Moving into the second the pace didn't slow down. With a small push back from bayfield found the boys down 3-1 after two periods which set up an exciting final period of the round robin. With the pace slowing down to a more conservative approach the boys settled in for a dog fight. With time dwindeling down in the third period and only 2 minutes left the faceoff was scrummed, and out of the pile we came with a nice shot from will put us back in the game down 3-2. With only a minute left the boys laid it all out on the line and pressured the bayfield team relentlessly but with no puck hitting the back of the net we came up a little short thus putting an end to outstanding and daunting task of winning out the round robin to play for a championship title.
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!!!!!
With the title out of reach we set out on the road for one last hurah. With a good day for a drive and an early morning start we headed to Mt. Brydges for a year end tourny. Coming off a long ride the boys just couldn't find their legs in the first period against dorchester and found themselves down 3-0 after one. Settling in to the game the boys put out a great effort containing the opposition for the next two periods but came up short. Final score 3-0.
Next up was a scrappy team from Belmont. With belmont opening the scoring in the nonstop action packed first period the boys were behind again. The second period started the same with end to end action by both teams. With time winding down and a great forecheck by walkerton in the last minute of play and an attitude filled Hogger steped in just as coached asked to pick off a clearing attempt with only 8 seconds left from the blue line he took it to the net. With a hard shot along the nice it found the back of the net as the buzzer sounded. Going into the third the action was steamy. Back and forth they went up and down the ice with pressure from both teams. Time was coming to an end with only 26 seconds left a shot by belmont took a wierd bounce off of hoggers stick off the post off our tenders skate and belmont stuffed it in. The hockey gods just didn't like us at all.
Off to the C final we go. With only thirty minutes of hockey left in their season the boys didn't disapoint. Puting an all out effort in the boys came out on top with a well deserved victory and an accomplishment that I know the coaches are proud.
A hardy hats off to all the boys on the team on a terrific tourny but there is need to give a big high five to our tender Chase Hauk for battling through sore eyes and all to put out an outstanding tourny mvp performance and giving his team the chance to Take home their third tourny campionship of the year in as many tourny's.
AS THIS IS THE LAST ARTICLE OF THE YEAR ITS ONLY FITTING TO THANK ALL THE PARENTS, BROTHERS, SISTERS, GRAND PARENTS AND ANYONE ELSE WHO ROUTED FOR OUR BOYS. A SPECIAL THANKS TO THE PARENTS FOR PUTTING UP WITH THE RELENTLESS LONG PRACTICES AND FOOLERY OF THE COACHES. HERES TO ALL OF US ON A GREAT YEAR AND DON'T WORRY WE'LL BE READY NEXT YEAR TO TAKE ON THE WORLD.
