Prestige Settle For A Tie in Clinton

The Presitge Atom AE team travelled to Clinton on Saturday Dec. 11 to face the BCH IceDogs for a 1:00 game. Fans were excited to see these two teams face each other again as the last match left the IceDogs leaving Walkerton with their tales between their legs in a 1-0 lose.

The period opened with end to end action with both teams forechecking hard. The Walkerton boys began to dominate about half way through the first keeping most of the play in the IceDogs end. Their efforts were rewarded with a goal by Scottie Eddyvean assisted by Jacob Regier and Tanner Stuempfle. Unfortunately, a bad bounce at the BCH blue line resulted in a two on one rush into our end that allowed the IceDogs to tie the period with one minute and thirty seconds remaining. The first period ended in a 1-1 tie.

A penalty for the Prestige boys early in the second period resulted in a quick power play goal for the IceDogs 30 seconds into the period. The Walkerton forwards continued to apply pressure in the BCH end keeping two men on the puck to force the pass out front numerous times but were continually denied by an agile BCH goalie. The defence worked hard on the blue line keeping the puck in the IceDogs end and firing many shots on net. With this continued effort the Prestige Capitals found the back of the net once again with 5 minutes remaining in the period on a goal from Regier and an assist from Jordan Lang. This would end the scoring for both sides in the second period, 2-2 after 20 minutes of play.

The IceDogs came out in the third period wanting to take a "bite" out of goalie Matthew Donnelly but he stayed strong between the pipes with the help of his ever protective defencemen, Thomas Crummer, Tanner Stuempfle, Ryan Girdler and Denver Turnbull. A penalty to the now "Snarlin" IceDogs in the third period gave the Prestige Capitals a chance to break the tie. The boys worked hard but couldn’t quite get the puck to bounce their way. Aggressive play by each team demonstrated how badly both sides wanted to break the tie, but to no avail the game ended in a 2-2 tie. The Caps couldn’t quite send the IceDogs to the dog house this game but look forward to meeting the Shallow Lake Lakers for their next match in Walkerton on Sunday at 1:30. Go Caps Go!
