Riding high on a big win to end the regular season the Walkerton Power Workers Union Local League bantams blew into Chatsworth in the middle of a good old Grey-Bruce snowstorm.
Things looked as bleak as the weather outside for Walkerton as Chatsworth jumped out to an early 2-0 lead early on. Chatsworth held that lead through all of the first and most of the second, even managing to kill off a number of penalties. But more Chatsworth penalties proved costly as Walkerton’s Tyler P, assisted by Ryan Y and Tyler G, scored a big power play goal which halved the Chatsworth lead.
That goal seemed to spark something in Walkerton as they turned themselves around with Matt L, assisted by Brayden D, scoring the tying goal just 2 minutes later. These young athletes have shown a never say die attitude all season and it was clear that they dug deep to get the game back in focus. With just 16 seconds left on the clock in the 2nd, Tyler G took the puck alone and made sure it found the back of the net, putting Walkerton ahead.
Chatsworth, a little down from the whirlwind Walkerton attack started the period strong and kept building pressure throughout the third period, but strong goaltending by Reed L and good defensive hockey kept Chatsworth at bay. With the opposition goalie on the bench, Tyler G stretched out on the ice to ricochet the puck into the open net, scoring the insurance goal to seal the win at the 47 second mark.
The following day Walkerton took the momentum they have been building into Shallow Lake, scoring a big 8-1 playoff victory that included a Ryan Y hat-trick. With a three game winning streak this play off season shows real promise for the Power Workers Union Bantams.
