Bantam L.L. Power Workers Union Growing as a Team
Submitted by Jeff Davidson
The Bantam Boys Local League team visited Arran Elderslie on December 27 and suffered an 8-1 loss to this very strong team.
However, on January 02, the lads visited Shallow Lake and put their skill and hard work together to earn a strong victory of their own. Reed Leslie earned his first ever Shut-out in net and Mark Wilken earned his first ever Hat-trick. The bounces all seems to be going for the Walkerton side as Luke, Tyler, Matt, Brayden and Ryan also added to the tally. 9-0 victory.
Adding assists in a strong team performance were Bryce with 3, Brandon, Tyler P with 2, Ryan Y with 2, Isaac, Mark W adding to his four point game, Liam with 3, Matt M, Tyler G, Austin an Steven. A great effort by everyone.
On January 08, Walkerton visited Chatsworth. Despite having a good effort and entertaining play, the team fell 5-2 to the home team.
On January 22, the Power Workers Union visited Bruce Peninsula #2 in Lions Head. A solid display of doing the fundamentals made for a very entertaining game. BP jumped to a quick lead but Ryan Y’s fore-check led to Tyler G grabbing a loose puck and burying it, after taking a quick look at the net. BP scored in the second, and then with 2 men in the penalty box, and a faceoff in our own end, it happened. The “wheels did not fall off our bus”, but instead, a little magic happened. Matt L took the puck off the draw, battled it over our blueline and sprung himself for a breakaway goal with 1:40 left on the clock and 2 men short. Quite a lesson in hard work, skill and never giving up. Final was a 2-2 tie.
