Power Workers Union Bantam L.L. Loses in Sunday Morning Goal Fest
Submitted by Jeff Davidson

The Bruce Peninsula #2 Team, based out of Wiarton, visited Walkerton on Sunday December the 19th.

Walkerton was short 3 players and needed to switch a few positions around to fill the voids. Steven P and Isaac E volunteered to help fill the missing defenseman spots and performed well. Bruce Peninsula showed up with 2 goalies but only one spare skater on the bench.

Walkerton jumped into the lead on a nice Luke Z backhander midway through the first period. Then, late in the period, Bryce M fed Matt L, who deftly slipped the puck to Austin H for his goal on the forehand.

Things were looking good at the end of the first period.

Bruce Peninsula scored 2 quick goals early in the second before Matt L passed to Mark W who fired a snapshot off the inside of the post and up under the bar, to restore the lead.  Then the "wheels fell off the bus".

Bruce Peninsula scored 5 in a row, using good positional play and long breakout passes to earn multiple breakaways. Goalie Reed L made many nice saves, but must have felt like a Leaf goalie with all the rubber he suddenly faced.

Walkerton did not give up though, and kept playing a clean game when Matt M scored on a rebound from Brayden D. Reed L made some nice sprawling saves as well.

Bruce Peninsula scored a final tally late in the game. Their team sported 2 huge young lads that were 6 foot-whatever-they-wanted-to-be, and certainly caught everyone's attention during warm-ups. These lads showed that they only wanted toshow their skill level in the game and played hockey the way it is supposed to be played.

Final 8-4.
