Big Win On Big Ice!
Hat Trick For Young!

After stumbling post Christmas break, and a couple of rigorous workouts with coaching staff, the boys seemed to have put the pieces back together and started to play their game again. After a solid performance at home the boys took to the road on the big ice in Mount Forest. Deadlocked in a goaltenders duel for most of the first, with big saves from tendy Chase Hauck and opposition net minder alike, Willy Schmidt drew first blood on a great cross ice pass from Andrew Young tape to tape to the back of the net. (great pass!) The scoreboard didn`t see near as much action as the keepers as both, Hauck and the young tendy from Mount Forest had locked horns in what was turning out to be a goaltenders game. With action end to end and a number of chances from both sides the second period ended in a stalemate, with both goalies not giving up even a sniff of the scoreboard. Going into the 3rd with a 1-0 lead the coaching staff urged the squad to get down to business and get down to business they did. On a great feed up the boards from d-man Michael Fortney, Andrew Young went in and fired one past the seemingly unbeatable opposition tender. This seemed to ignite the nessecary fire the boys needed. With another great breakout pass by Fortney, winger Steven Ottewell picked up the puck in the neutral zone. Showing great skill and composure, Ottewell hit a streaking Ryan Lair on the tape up the middle to send him in alone and Lair made no mistake going upstairs on the sprawling tender. With a 3-0 lead the boys seemed to become complacent and let a cherry picking Forest forward in on a break and capitalizing on an already over worked keeper fired one just out of reach of an outstretched Hauck glove and stymied the captains bid for a well deserved shut out. After a small breakdown the boys got back to business. On a great pass from d-man Coleman Meyer, Andrew young came streaking down his right wing and burried his second on a weary Mount Forest tender. Seeing how well it worked Meyer and Young hooked up again less than 30 seconds later with Meyer throwing it down to Young at the side of the net. Making no mistake Young hammered home a one timer to net his third marker and giving him the hat trick! The now unstoppable force that is the Wightman Novice squad had but one more to add. On a perfect pass from Austin Hogg out of the corner to Steven Ottewell, Steve tipped it right on the stick of teammate Ryan Lair and making no mistake Lair banged home his second to give the boys a 6-1 victory on the road. Great job again guys and keep up the passing it really does work. Your coaches wouldn`t lie. At least not about hockey!
