Larsen Girls Compete in Year End Tournament
The Larsen Bantam girls season ended with their year end tournament in Brussels over the weekend.  To keep up with their consistent tournament play, the girls once again brought home the silver medal.

In the first game, the girls faced off against Saugeen Shores.  Both teams started off strong as they wanted to set the pace for the tournament.  Walkerton started off the scoring with a goal from Missy Adams and Joelle Busby.  Saugeen Shores answered back making the game close, but Walkerton pulled away in the second period.  Ashton Nixon and Destiny Berberich provided markers to add to their lead.  Walkerton got into penalty trouble near the end of the game, but the capable defence squad was able to defend against the late attack by Saugeen Shores. The final score ended in the girls favour 4-2.  Assists for the game went to Destiny Berberich, Ashton Nixon, Katrina Young, Sarah Biesenthal, Emalee Haight and Missy Adams.  Alyssa Inglis played a great game in net and shut down many scoring chances.

The next opponent was TCDMHA.  Over the season the matches were very close and this game had the same intensity.  The game provided action in all ends of the rink.  Many of the Walkerton defence provided rushes up the ice to help out the offence.  Finally, Walkerton was able to slide one pass the goalie as Katrina Young scored on a wrap around.   TCDMHA continued to press hard around the Walkerton net and eventually scored on a shot that was accidently went off a Walkerton player.  This fired up the team as they battled hard and scored just before the period ended.  Emalee Haight scored assisted by Ashton Nixon and Missy Adams.  TCDMHA did not give up in the last period but the Walkerton girls were up for the challenge as Katrina Wyatt, Lauren McLean, Jamie Van Loon, Sarah Biesenthal and Katrina Young played strong in front of their goalie.  Solid between the pipes stood Micaela Stutzki.  The final score was 2-1 for Walkerton.

The final game pitted Walkerton against Kincardine.  All season the games have been very tight and entertaining.  The girls started out strong in the first period.  They were skating hard and produced quality scoring chances on net.  There was no scoring in the first period.  In the second period, Kincardine beat goaltender Alyssa Inglis, and scored two goals.  Kincardine ran into penalty trouble and the girls could not take advantage of the situation.  The start of the third period the girls were determined to give it their all.  Ashton Nixon received a pass from Missy Adams and fired the puck into the net to put the girls back into the game.  Penalties for Kincardine again put Walkerton into a position to tie the game.  The girls pressured and swarmed the net but were unable to get the equalizer.  At the sound of the buzzer, the girls lost 2-1 to Kincardine in yet another entertaining and exciting game.

Congatulations girls on a great season!!  Although not every girls made the score sheet every game, it was a total team effort. Thank you to all of the girls who help out during the season after Faith Yensen went out with an injury.  Thanks to Faith also for continuing her support at games and tournaments when we know you would rather be on the ice.  Thanks to the entire coaching staff for all of your hard work and dedication to the girls this season. The girls appreciated your support and guidance throughout the season.
