Larsen Girls' Bring Home Silver
The Larsen Bantam Girls just missed bringing home the gold medal from the Markham-Stouffville Tournament on the weekend.  With only ten skaters and two goalies, the girls fought hard through five games only to come up short in a thrilling final game.  The team was on the short end of a shootout, thus bringing home the silver medal.  It was a great team effort by all throughtout the entire weekend.

The Larsen Girls met up with Markham-Stouffville in their first match up. The girls outplayed their opponents in all areas of the ice.  The girls came up with a 3-1 victory.  Goal scorers for the game were Jamie Van Loon, Emmalee Haight and Destiny Berberich.  Assists went to Katrina Wyatt, Katrina Young and Missy Adams.  Alyssa Inglis was not busy in net as the defence kept the opposition away.

The next opponent to face off against the team was Ottawa.  The girls started off slow, only due to the fact that all of their fans were not assembled at the proper game.  Once the girls had the attention of their fans, they were off to the races. They out scored the opposition 3-0.  Missy Adams started off the scoring being assisted by Asthon Nixon. Adams and Nixon kept up their scoring pace by assisting Emalee Haight on the next goal.  With the game in hand, Katrina Young added one more goal, assisted by Destiny Berberich and Faith Yensen.  Micaela Stutzki worked hard in net to earn the shut out with the help of her capable defense.

Later on, the girls hit the ice with the same grit and determination from the previous games.  Walkerton stood strong against Ancaster.  Still passing and skating hard, the girls still had the soft touch around the net as they won 5-2.   It was a total team effort as there were five different scorers;, Katrina Young, Jamie Van Loon, Missy Adams, Emalee Haight and Sarah Biesenthal.  Assists for the game went to Destiny Berberich, Faith Yensen and Ashton Nixon.  Even though they did not make the score sheet, Katrina Wyatt and Lauren McLean did a superb job in keeping the puck in the offensive zone. Alyssa Inglis earn another victory.

An early rise brought up a match against Georgina for the semi-final match.  The girls were game ready.  Both goalies were on their game as it was a scorless first period.  The girls eventually got on the board with a goal by Missy Adams assisted by Emalee Haight and Ashton Nixon.  Not to be outdone, Georgina tied up the game.  Walkerton turned on the power and scored  on the next shift by Ashton Nixon assisted by Missy Adams and Emalee Haight.  With a tight game, Katrina Young scored an insurance goal with a minute left in the game and Emalee Haight popped in and empty net goal.  Great game in net by Micaela Stuzki to stop all the scrambles in front of the net.

The championship game pitted Walkerton versus Lindsay.  Both teams were evenly matched.  It was great end to end action that got the whole crowd involved.  Lindsay opened the scoring.  Walkerton battled back as Ashton Nixon scored the tying goal on a big rebound, assisted by Emalee Haight.  The score ended as a tie at the end of the game.  There was a 5 minute,3 on 3, and no goals were scored.  It eventually came down to a shoot out and the Lindsay team prevailled. A great game from Micaela Stutzki who stood strong between the pipes.

Overall, the entire team put forth an outstanding effort in all of the games.  With only ten skaters they pushed the limits in every area.  Both goalies worked hard when called upon and kept the team in game. The team possessed great passing, strong forechecking and many outstanding defensive plays.  Everyone contributed to the whole effort of the weekend. The entire coaching staff is proud of you.  A great team effort girls.
