by Shannon Busby

The Walkerton Godfathers Pee Wee reps continue to surmount opposition as they document a 13 game winning streak.

Walkerton visited Mount Forest on Jan 22nd and the crowd witnessed the girls capitalizing on many scoring opportunities. It was a lop-sided affair with a score of 9-2 in Walkerton’s favour. Joelle Busby collected 4 goals. Julie Thomson added 2 goals. Leah Kittel, Emily Cormack, and Jasmine Thompson all added singles. Assists were added by Julie T (4) Busby (2) and Kittel (2).

Two days later, in exhibition play, Walkerton hosted Grand River from the Lower Lakes League. Julie T  had no trouble burying the puck as she scored for the Caps four times, Ashley Ernst ,Cormack,  Kittel and Busby all added single markers. The defensive squad were Instrumental in the win. Monica Fritz passed the puck three times, which resulted in goals. Natalie Hawkins did the same once. Maddy Wright rushed the puck several times but was not able to beat the opposing net minder. Other assists were awarded to Ernst, Cormack, Busby and Jasmine Thompson. Madison Elliot was steadfast in net for both games.

January 25th was the date that Godfathers hosted TCDMHA. The Caps had a short roster this game. Alternate player, Ally Busby filled in for the Caps and was able to open the scoring for them. Ally netted the goal after passes from sister, Joelle and linemate Julie Thomson. Walkerton soon tallied 10 goals while TCDMHA squeezed in one. Scoring was spread throughout the three periods while the Caps took advantage of many passing opportunities. Scoring for the Caps were Julie Thomson(2), Joelle Busby(2), Ally Busby(2), Emily Cormack, Leah Kittel, Maddy Wright, & Ashley Ernst. Most of the goals were assisted twice resulting in 17 assists! Kittel had many solid shots and timely passes which resulted in 5 helpers. Other assists were awarded to A Busby(3), Julie Thomson(3), J Busby(2), Ernst(2) and Wright(2)

Coaches Brian Busby, Tom Kittel, and Doug Wright have been very pleased with the style of play shown by the team. They comment that the girls are quite serious about hockey and that they are willing to work hard each time they are on the ice. Trainers Cheryl Kuntz and Bonnie Thompson have been witness to lots of team spirit, both on the ice and in the dressing room.

The Godfathers track record is very impressive with just 2 losses in 28 games! Way to go Caps!
