Godfather's PeeWee Girls Win Silver at Barrie Tournament
Written by Andy Cormack

The Godfather's Peewee rep girls team took part in the 12 team Barrie Sharkfest tournament on the weekend of Nov. 20-22.   The girls played outstanding, tenacious hockey all five of their games.

In their first game, the girls played the Sudbury Lady Wolves winning 2-0.  Goal scorers were Leah Kittel and Julie Thomson.  Assists went to Jasmine Thompson, Natalie Hawkins and Madison Elliott.

In their second game the girls defeated the Cambridge Roadrunners 3-0.  Goal scorers were Joelle Busby, Ashley Ernst and Emily Cormack.  Assists were awarded to Julie Thomson, Busby, and Kittel.

Saturday morning saw the girls soundly defeat Brantford Ice Cats 5-0.  Julie Thomson lead the way with 4 goals, Busby got the other goal for the girls.  Assists went to Ernst (2), Busby, Jasmine Thompson and Melynda McKenzie. This win earned the girls a bye into the semi-finals versus Orillia Hawks.

In the semi-final the girls controlled the play and defeated Orillia 2-0.  Busby and Thomson scored the goals while Cormack and Thompson earned the assists.

In the championship game, a determined, but tired Godfather's team came up on the short end of a 1-0 loss to Woolwich.  Madison Elliott, goalie, was selected as the team's MVP for this game.

At the end of the tournament, the girls had a 4-1 record and only surrendered 1 goal - incredible!   While their names did not make it on the scoresheet, Madison Wright and Monica Fritz were rocksteady on the point.  Congratulations to the team on such a fantastic performance.
