Mitchell Up 2-1 Over Peewees
The Legion Peewee reps enjoyed another close, hard-fought game Wednesday night in Walkerton, coming up short against Mitchell to go down 2-1 in the first round best of 5.
The first period was a close-checking affair until the 5-minute mark, when goalie Ryan Bester made 3 great saves on a Mitchell flurry. That sparked the Walkerton offence and minutes later Justin Donnelly went streaking down the left side and went low on the blocker side for the first goal of the game.
Walkerton started the second period on the penalty kill, and Mitchell capitalized when a blocked shot was deflected to an open forward. Walkerton got the power play back, with the first-year line of Luc Bester, Donnelly and Digger Paulizki pouring on the pressure and Bailey Zettler blasting slapshots from the blue-line, but failed to score, before Mitchell went ahead 2-1 on a short-handed wrap-around goal. At 7:22 in the second, it was Tyson MacLennan kicking up a blocked shot for a breakaway, and making a nice move to beat the Mitchell goalie and tie the game at 2.
The home team couldn't find the net in the 3rd, allowing 2 unanswered Mitchell goals to put the game out of reach. Mitchell scored the empty-netter to close out the scoring 5-2. Walkerton travels to Mitchell Saturday for Game 4.
