McIntee Atom boys finish second at Silver Stick
McIntee Atom boys finish 2nd at Silver Stick       The McIntee Atom Boys team participated in the annual Silver Stick Tournament in Wingham this past week and weekend.  The boys were well deserving of the second place finish and did themselves proud!       

The boys played Twin Center in their first game Tues. Dec. 8, (just before the snowstorm), and defeated their opponent 2-1 in an evenly matched game.  Carter Buehlow opened the scoring for the team with Hunter Zettler assisting.  Later in the first frame, Twin Center tied the score.  Christopher Cormack scored the game winner in the third period on a short-handed effort.  Dakota Weiler earned the assist.  Goalie Aiden Quish was excellent in the game and helped preserve the win for the boys.  He was well-deserving for the game MVP award for his team.  Saturday morning, Dec. 12, the boys played a determined, fast skating Mitchell team, losing 4-0 in a penalty filled affair.  In their second game of the day, the team played Goderich and needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.  This was an exciting battle between two evenly matched teams.  Christopher Cormack scored the only goal of the game in a short-handed effort.  In their third game of the day, the boys played BCH.  The winner of this game would advance to the championship game.  In a tenacious effort, the boys defeated their opponents 3-1.  Scoring for the McIntee Atoms were:  Buehlow, Calvin Wilson and Jake Spitzig.  Wilson earned an assist on Spitzig's tally.  The Championship game, played on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 13, the boys played their nemesis, Mitchell.  In spite of their best efforts, the boys came up short, losing 5-1.  Buehlow scored the lone Walkerton goal, assisted by Spitzig.  While their names did not appear on the score sheets excellent effort was shown by Sam Lowry, Brayden McKenzie, Dorian Charrette, Noah Leslie, Michael McAskill, Curtis Al,and Evan Visser.  Throughout the tournament, the boys showed a great deal of determination and effort.  They grew and played as a team.
