Prestige Claims Win in First Playoff Game
Walkerton's Prestige Contracting Atoms will play a home and away Round Robin against Mount Forest, Lucknow, Durham, Hanover and Walkerton Cuneo. They started the 10 game action hosting Mount Forest who were eager for revenge after being defeated in tournament play the day before by Prestige.
Both teams provided end to end action for their fans and Mount Forest opened the scoring 5 minutes after the puck dropped. That however would be Mount Forest's only goal as Ben Schmidt was stellar in between the pipes right down to the very last second.
Scott Eddyvean started a play early in the 2nd period, with a pass to Drew Cobean who slipped the puck through the Mount Forest defence to Nick Fairminer who tallied the first marker for Walkerton. With just 3 minutes left in the 2nd period Fairminer scored unassisted to give Walkerton the win.
The third period saw many opportunities for both teams but excellent goaltending and defence on both sides resulted in no further scoring and Walkerton posted their first playoff win in as many games with the 2-1 victory.
Game 2 goes Tuesday night in Lucknow at 6:30 pm.
