Lots of Action for Vet Clinic Midgets
Submitted by the Zettler's.
The Walkerton Hanover Vet Clinic Midgets saw lots of hockey action this past week. On Wednesday evening the team travelled to Port Elgin for a game against Saugeen Shores #2 team. After a scoreless first period, it wasn’t until there was 36 seconds left in the second that Logan Kritz was able to weave through several opponents and defeat the Shores’ goaltender. The team continued to play strong and late in the third period, Curtis Robson netted one leaving the game to finish 2-0. Jamie Al earned the shutout.

This past weekend, the team took part in the Minto Midget Local League Mad Dog Tournament. Their first game was against a team from Dundalk. Despite many chances, the team came up short and was defeated 2-1. Scoring for Walkerton was Paul Gill assisted by Mark Zettler.
Their next match was against a strong Chatsworth team. Walkerton was first on the scoreboard when Ben Kittel scored, assisted by Gill and Allan Rogers. Chatsworth answered back, but with 9 seconds left in the first, Walkerton pulled ahead on a goal from Braydon Berberich, assisted by Alex Dales. The second period belonged to Chatsworth, with them scoring 2 unanswered goals. Walkerton was unable to regain the lead in the third period resulting in a 3-2 loss.
Playing their third game of the day, Walkerton faced a team from Listowel. Walkerton took the lead in the first on a goal from Dillon Hindman, assisted by Matt MacLean and Kritz. Walkerton continued the scoring in the second with a goal from Sam Eckert, assisted by Dales and Berberich. Listowel responded with a goal, only to have Walkerton answer back with another from Kritz, assisted by Hindman and Zettler. The third period was scoreless giving Walkerton the 3-1 win advancing them into the Division E final on Sunday.
This game saw the local squad come up against a team from Twin Centres. This close game saw Paul Gill scoring Walkerton’s first goal in the second period with the assist going to Zettler. Twin Centres tied the game in the third and despite Walkerton’s many penalties the game ended with a 1-1 tie forcing a 5 minute overtime period. With the score remaining unchanged the game went into a shoot-out with Pat Koller scoring to give Walkerton the win and the Division E Championship.
