Our girls faced off in Mount Forest against BCH (Blyth, Clinton and Howick) at 2pm, determined to take home the trophy.
Wightman Atom girls came to Mount Forest to win, and they didn't disappoint. What a great game they had, and they sure had to work for the win!
The first period had many chances for our Wightman girls, but nothing that ended up in the back of the net. Late in the second period BCH managed to beat our goalie, giving them a 1-0 lead. Walkerton continued to fight hard, pressing on the net, but ended the second period at 1-0.
The third period was full of good chances on the BCH net, but nothing worked until 6 minutes in, when Georgina M banged one right past the goalie from the the blue line, with an assist from Bailey T. Despite many amazing attempts on goal, the game remained a 1-1 tie to the end of the 3rd.
5 minutes of sudden death overtime, made for some great hockey, but again, no scoring! Our exhausted girls headed into 3 on 3 sudden death overtime for another 5 minutes. Again, the girls had many great chances on net, but nothing that the BCH goalie couldn't handle! After the score was still 1-1 after double overtime, we headed into a shoot out!
First up was Courtney B, then Georgina M, 3rd was Krista K. The BCH goalie stopped them all, as did Pippi on our end. Next up was Ally B, Sophie B and Brooklyn B. Still no goal on either side! Taking their turns were Samantha H, Bailey T, and Ashlyn C. Still no goals! Next came Victoria S, and FINALLY, Justine M was able to put one past the goalie, making our girls the Consolation Champions!!!! GOOD SHOW LADIES!!!
What an amazing game, by all girls on the team! What a way to show the team work that you have learned all season. What an amazing way to end the season! Every single girl on the team played their position to a T, and they deserved this win!
