Weber's Girls Silverstick Semi-Finalists
The Weber Bantam Rep girls travelled to Cold Creek and put on an impressive show but came up short losing to the eventual champs Mt Forest

The Weber Electric Bantam Rep girls did themselves really proud after a real gutsy performance at the International Bantam Silverstick by posting four straight shutouts with Katie Grubb's talent leading the way in net.
Their first game pitted the girls against a highly rated Napanee team. The girls were out to prove their critics wrong by scoring a goal for a change, and they did just that with birthday girl Dallas Fahrer finding the back of the net just 16 seconds into the game on a nice pass from Marielle Adams. Ashlee Cameron earned the second assist. Walkerton doubled their score to 2-0 2 minutes later after Jocelyn King fired one passed a screened Napanee goalie. Shae Busby 40 seconds later made it 3-0 with Fahrer and Adams assisting. With all this fire power, it was heard in the stands that it might be nice to save some for the next game, but the girls potted two more in the third to make the final 5-0. Adams from Busby and Busby from Fahrer and Lauren McLean were the goals scorers. Grubb made several big saves to earn the shutout. Busby received the MVP for the game for Walkerton.
Their next game was against Petroilia, the eventual tournament finalists, and the voice in the stands from the previous game proved to be right, as the girls had trouble finding the net, but again Grubb came up big and Walkerton earned a 0-0 tie. This was the Weber girls '6TH' 0-0 tie of the year thus the comments from the stands!!! Grubb was picked MVP of this game.
The win and tie put the girls in a pretty good spot to make it to the playoffs but they wanted to ensure first place in their division thus a win against Smith Falls was needed. It has been said that sometimes the best doesn't always win and in this case it was true for two periods as the 'Cubs' dominated a very tired Walkerton team, but luck and timing also play a big part in a game and Katrina Wyatt couldn't of picked a better time for a burst of energy when she beat a Smith Falls defender to the puck and went around their net, centering a beautiful backhand pass out front to Katrina Young who calmly potted it into the top corner for a 1-0 Walkerton lead. Claire Tomlinson earned the other assist after her initial dump in to the Smith Falls corner. This goal really deflated the visiting team and Walkerton jumped on them starting the 3rd when King scored 8 seconds into the period on coach Beave Adams' patented "Pouchie" play. Busby and Adams earned assists. Walkerton held on for a 2-0 win. This win ensured Walkerton a place in the quarter finals against Sarnia which would be the third game of the day for both teams.Adams earned the MVP for this game.
After a long wait for a Ref, the girls got it going with Sarnia at the Frankford arena and got off to a quick start with Young potting her second of the tourney, at the 3 minute mark of the first period. Wyatt and Mikayla Smailes earned assists. It was then back to their tight defense system,(this system usually means Grubb is standing on her head while the rest work their buns off to get the puck out of their end!!!) and they hung on long enough to allow Busby, with her 3rd of the tourney, to fire one into an empty net giving Walkerton a 2-0 win. King earned the MVP for this game. This was second time this year that Grubb has posted four straight shutouts!!
Sunday mornings semi-final game placed the girls against a familiar foe, in the form of Mt. Forest. Mt Forest is known in the  WOAA loop as a rough/tough competitor but the Weber girls were up to the task ahead of them. Despite having a shorter bench, 11 skaters to most teams 15, the girls came out flying and Tomlinson got Walkerton on the board first one minute into the period. Young and Lexie Bell earned assists. This normally would be enough scoring for Grubb and Walkerton kept up the pressure on a much fresher looking Mt Forest team, just missing a couple goals in close, but a lucky 'pinball' type bounce went Mt Forests' way and they evened the score at ones with 3 minutes left in the second. The Walkerton girls were sure game for this one but fatigue caught up with them at the 5 minute mark of third when a Mt Forest forward got a step on a back checker and blew by the defense, and then slipped a nice shot over Grubb's right arm to give them a 2-1 lead. Walkerton pulled Grubb with 2 minutes left in the game but they couldn't get one past a very 'stingy' Mt Forest goalie, thus losing 2-1. Mt Forest went on to beat Petroilia in the final 1-0. Adams was picked MVP for this game but graciously gave the prize to Tomlinson for her goal.
Despite coming up short of their goal the girls should very proud of their effort and overall team play. I know the coach is extremely proud of them and looks forward to seeing what they'll do in the provincials when we get there!!!!
