Weber's Bantan B Girls Do Well In Waterloo
The Bantam B girls came home with a fourth place finish

The Weber girls went to Waterloo and found themselves up against some pretty tough competition in a B/BB format.
Their first game pitted them against Belmont and despite a rash of penalty calls and some very aggressive girls, the Walkerton girls held Belmont off and earned a 0-0 tie. Katie Grubb earned the shutout, while strong forechecking from 'Shorty" Wyatt and Claire Tomlinson kept the Belmont girls frustrated all game long. Their second game placed the girls against Burlington and despite trailing twice in this game the girls showed what they were made of and earned a 2-2 tie in this one. "Missy" Adams, from "Trudy" Young and 'Bizz" McLean, scored the first goal while "Lexie" Bell got the second goal with help from Shae Busby and Dallas Fahrer. With the Friday games under their belts , the Weber girls prepared for Norfolk on Saturday knowing they needed a win to guarantee a place in the playoff round. The game again was a close one, but "Joce" King somehow got a "seeing eye" shot through three sets of legs to put Walkerton on top. Ashlee Cameron and Busby collected assists. Grubb made that goal stand up with help from "Mik" Smailes on "D" and the never quitting, hard charging forwards.
This win placed the girls second in their group, thus earning a semi-final match against Sudbury, who placed first in their group. Facing their fourth game in two days(most of the girls fifth game in 3 days because of a Thursday night league game against Markdale, which they won 4-0 with help from Peewee's Sarah Biesenthal, Emilee Haight and Lindsay Dales) the girls were a bit weary but they came out flying again and gave a much larger Sudbury team all they could handle, but a penalty late in the second gave Sudbury the opening they needed putting one over Grubbs shoulder on a deflection off a Walkerton D and despite pulling their goalie with a minute 33 left on the clock, the Walkerton girls couldn't find the mark and took a 1-0 loss. Despite the loss the girls were sure to get their money's worth in this tourney as they still had a chance for bronze in a re-match against Belmont who lost to Waterloo in their semi-final. In another close, back and forth game, these two teams ended it the same way they did the in their first meeting tied at 0-0. The over-time was set as a 3 on 3 for 5 minutes format and mid-way through the SECOND over-time Belmont caught the very tired Weber girls flat footed and managed to poke a rebound past Grubb to take the bronze with a 1-0 score. Despite this result, the coaching staff were very pleased the the girls' effort and know a tournament win can't be far behind.
