Game #1 Saturday March 14th

After an exciting series against a tough Arran Elderslie, our McIntee Atom Rep boys headed to Wingham to face a strong Wingham squad for the next round of WOAA Group playdowns. The boys remembered the last time that these two teams met and our boys received a pretty good schooling by the fast Wingham team. This time was to be different. Ryan Bester was stellar in net earning a shutout, making save after save to keep our boys in the game. Our defense was on top of their game as well assisting Ryan when called apon. As for our forwards their desire to win and sound defensive play as well helped them succeed. All this together rolled into a great team effort from all is what was required to take the first game. The game remained scoreless until the 3rd period when at about the 10 minute mark Jake Spitzig scored the game winner. Getting assists on the play were Justin Donnelly and Michael McAskill. It was a nailbiter to the end as penalty trouble had us a man down with 1:18 to go and with the puck deep in our end, the Wingham squad pulled the goalie and gave us everything we could handle. But handle it we did, as the boys were able to hold them off and earn the victory.
