Langs Take Home Gold
The Walkerton Langs Midget 'C' girls came home with the gold medal this weekend (Jan 11-13) in the Cambridge Roadrunners tourney.

The first game was against Saugeen Shores Friday afternoon. The girls were solid and came away with a 5-1 win. Walkerton goals went to Leanne Dales, assisted by Bridget King, Christie Pitt with two, assisted by Katie Pegelo, Becca Engel and Gab Lehman. Jill Pitt finished off the scoring with two more, assisted by Dales and Christie Pitt. The girls were back on the ice a couple hours later with a game against Brantford. The girls remained strong throughout the game and came away with a 4-2 victory. Brantford came out on top of the girls stronger than expected but Langs bounced back with a goal by Jill Pitt, unassisted. Christie Pitt added two more to the score with assists going to Jill Pitt, Lesa Kittel and Davidson. Langs finished things off with a goal by Alicia Argue assisted by Christie Pitt. On Saturday, Walkerton met the home team Cambridge with the win securing them the spot in the finals. Langs were pumped to go on and responded with a 1-0 win. Walkerton’s lone goal was scored by Engel with the assist credited to Steph Lemont. Emily Golem played awesome in net and earned the shut-out. Langs, first in their pool, then went into the finals on Sunday against Cambridge, determined to beat them again for the gold. Lemont started up the scoring for Langs with a goal from the point, unassisted. Cambridge came back with a quick goal to tie the score 1-1. The score remained tied till the third period when Pegelo found the net off of a beautiful pass by Dales. Carly Smith also assisted. 18 seconds later the power line of Dales and Pegelo scored again, reversing the play with Dales scoring off of a pass by Pegelo. Engel also assisted. Leticia Barber secured the gold medal win assisted by Kayla Bester and Christie Pitt. Erin Neil was strong on the puck all weekend and Emily Holmes had some great scoring chances. Rachael Diebold on defense remained strong throughout denying the opposition. Golem played amazing in net all weekend and helped the girls come away with the gold.
