Brantford Win for Peewee Girls
The Walkerton Capitals Peewee Girls Rep team participated in the 27th annual Walter Gretzky
Girls Tournament from February 29th-March 2nd in Brantford.  The team is sponsored by Godfathers Pizza and represented the town with pride as they played well against many larger
city teams.  Congratulations to the girls for their tireless effort and endless dedication!

The team faced Sault Ste. Marie on Friday and ended with a 1-0 win.  Destiny Berberich scored the lone goal for
Walkerton and was assisted by Faith Yensen and Sarah Biesenthal.  Berberich earned the MVP honour for that game.
Kitchener was the opponent the team faced on Saturday morning with the result being a 3-3 tie.  Lindsay Dales scored
the first goal from Biesenthal, and then Biesenthal went on to score the second goal from Berberich.  Berberich had the
third goal for the team with assists going to Biesenthal and Yensen.  Victoria Carroll was MVP for that game.
The girls came up against Norfolk in the afternoon and had a 3-0 win.  Emalee Haight opened the scoring with help from
Marielle Adams and Katrina Young.  Adams scored the next two goals with Katrina Wyatt having assists on both and
Victoria Carroll on one goal.  The MVP went to Emalee Haight for this game.
In the semi-final round the team played South Huron to a slim 1-0 victory.  Wyatt had the single goal for the team assisted
by Adams.  The defensive team of Lauren McLean, Katrina Young, Lindsay Dales and Victoria Carroll played aggressive
hockey in their end. Alyssa Inglis recorded the shut-out for her team, stopping many chances for the opponent.
Katrina Wyatt received MVP honours for that game.
The team faced Kincardine in the final round of the tournament.  The opposition scored first, but the girls were not
discouraged and came back with a final win of 3-1.  Marielle Adams had the first goal from Wyatt and Haight.  Young
netted the second goal unassisted and Biesenthal added an empty net goal assisted by Adams to clinch the win.  Katrina
Young earned the MVP for the final game.  Walter Gretzky was on hand to extend congratulations to the team and present
medals for their achievement.  Great work girls!!
