International Silver Stick Champions!
   The Walkerton Capitals Peewee B girls team sponsored by Godfathers, won the International
Silver Stick championship in Sarnia on February 3rd.  Hard work and discipline paid off for the
team as they faced strong opposition and much larger squads than themselves.  Congratulations go
out to the girls, coaching staff and parents on a job well done!



   The journey started on Friday February 1st with a tough 4-3 loss against Addison, Illinois.  Emalee Haight netted two
goals for Walkerton, while Faith Yensen had the other.  Two assists went to Sarah Biesenthal while Katrina Wyatt,
Destiny Berberich and Lauren McLean each had one.  Destiny Berberich earned the MVP honour for that game.
   The morning of  February 2nd saw the girls ending with a 5-3 win over Woolwich.  Sarah Biesenthal earned two goals
and one assist, and Destiny Berberich netted three goals and one assist.  Faith Yensen added two assists, while Marielle
Adams and Katrina Wyatt each earned one.  MVP went to Sarah Biesenthal for that game.
   Later that day the girls came up against Belleville and skated away with a 4-2 win.  Scoring all four goals for the
Walkerton team in that game was MVP Marielle Adams.  Two assists went to Emalee Haight and Lauren McLean
earned one assist in that game.
   Entering the semi-final round on February 3rd, the team faced off against Ilderton. Katrina Young earned the MVP
title for that game with one goal and strong defensive play.  Sarah Biesenthal added two goals and  Marielle Adams had one.  Lauren McLean and Emalee Haight both had two assists and Destiny Berberich added one assist.  Finishing with a final score of 4-2 over their  opponents, the girls headed into the final game later that morning.
   The squad came up against Mount Forest in their final game of the tournament.  All of the girls put in a phenomenal
effort against a strong opponent.  The defensive squad of Victoria Carroll, Katrina Young and Lauren McLean had
their work cut out for them keeping the other team at bay.  Alyssa Inglis played an amazing game in net for Walkerton,
full of confidence and again using her amazing flexibilty to stop many chances for Mount Forest.  With the game still
scoreless at the end of regulation time, the team headed into overtime.  Sarah Biesenthal scored the game winning goal
in overtime for the team to clinch the title.  Marielle Adams received the MVP award for her tireless efforts on the ice.
