Close Finish in Woodstock
The Godfather Peewee girls competed in the Woodstock Wildcats tournament on the weekend of January 4th-6th.  The team showed amazing determination and stamina in facing much larger teams compared to their nine skaters.  Overcoming larger ice surfaces, illness, and missing our feisty Lindsay Dales on defence- the girls played their best hockey of the season.  Making it to the finals on Sunday, the girls skated away with the silver medal in what was definitely the most tense game they have played to date.  Congratulations girls and coaches!

The peewee girls faced Woodstock in their first game on Friday and ended with a 2-1 loss.  Sarah Biesenthal scored the
lone goal for Walkerton and was assisted by Destiny Berberich and Faith Yensen.  Lauren McLean received the MVP
award for her strong defensive play.
The Walkerton team faced Twin Centers on Friday night and defeated their opponent 2-0.  MVP of the game- Destiny
Berberich scored both Walkerton goals and was assisted by Sarah Biesenthal with the second. The defensive team of
Katrina Young, Victoria Carroll and Lauren McLean stole many chances from the opponent.
The girls came on strong against Stoney Creek on Saturday with a 6-0 win.  Emalee Haight captured the MVP award
for that game with two goals and two assists. Adding one goal and two assists was Sarah Biesenthal.  Marielle Adams,
Destiny Berberich and Katrina Wyatt all had one goal and one assist.  Faith Yensen contributed two assists and Victoria
Carroll added one assist.
In the final game against Woodstock, the girls battled hard but could not put a number on the board. With the game
ending in a 0-0 score at the end of regulation time, the girls headed into overtime.  At the end of five minutes of OT
there was still no score and that meant a shoot-out.  Woodstock managed a goal on their third shot to win the game and
the tournament and Walkerton captured the silver.  MVP for the final game went to Alyssa Inglis for her amazing flexibility
and confidence in the net for the Walkerton Capitals.
