Cuneos Atoms win “B” Division Championship in Minto.
Blessed with stand out goaltending and great team play Walkerton’s Cuneos Local League Atoms came away from the Minto Tournament held in Palmerston as B Division champions.

In the Friday night game Cuneos faced the host Minto team in an exciting, fast paced game.  In the first period Minto started their attack scoring the first goal.  But as the second period started Cuneos took over owning the period scoring two goals.  Tying the game was Quinn Tramble assited by Liam Robertson.  A short time later Austin Myers, with the assistance of Brendan Carmount, pulled Cuneos into the lead.  In the third Reed Leslie, assisted by Darian Beglaw brought Cuneos to a 3-1 lead.  While Minto managed to score one more time the top notch goaltending of Brennan Wagner ensured the win.

The next game was against Twin Centres from Wellesley and St. Clements.  This was a stand out game with exciting end to end action between two very evenly matched teams.  Jordon Dahms kept the game close with a number of great saves.  Austin Myers, Reed Leslie, Brayden Davidson, Jacob Weber, Liam Robertson and Bryce Martin all played outstanding games and came close to scoring, but were shut down by the hot goaltending of the Twin Centres team.  If not for a fluke goal that just trickled over the line Cuneos could easily have come out on top.  Truth be told if not for that unlucky bounce the teams were so evenly matched they might still be playing.

This loss sent Cuneos into the “B” Division Championship game where they faced the strong team from Teeswater.  This was one of the most exciting games of the season so far for Cuneos fans.  Teeswater opened the scoring mid-way through the 1rst period.  Then Liam Robertson, assisted by Jordan Dahms and Bryce Martin, picked a good time to notch his first goal of the season, tying the game.

The second period saw Cuneos and Teeswater trading a pair of goals during some outstanding play by both teams.  Scoring for Cuneos with a very nice goal was Jacob Weber assisted by Darian Beglaw.  The third goal for Cuneos was buried in the net by Jordan Dahms, assisted by Kyle Paulitzki, with Bryce Martin standing at the door waiting to slam it shut if Dahms was stopped.

The third period was nail-biting end to end action with outstanding goaltending for both teams.  Brennan Wagner not only kept Cuneos in the game, his play made him one of the stars of the game.  Helping Brennan with some outstanding defensive play were Cuneos defencemen Ryan Young, Liam Robertson, Brayden Davidson and Isaac Elliott.

With the score tied at the end of regulation time Cuneos and Teeswater found themselves in overtime and Cuneos fans near to fainting.  Neither team held back, but a couple of outstanding plays led to a Cuneos win.  Liam Robertson broke up a very dangerous Teeswater 2 player breakaway.  With the breakaway broken up Cuneos got the puck up to a streaking Brendan Carmount who made no mistake scoring an unassisted highlight reel goal to secure the championship for Walkerton’s Cuneos Atoms.

All of Walkerton congratulates this great team effort by Cuneos in bringing home the trophy.
