Larsens play 3 tough games at Harriston Tournament

Written by Jennifer Hudson:
Larsen's Pee Wee Local League team, despite the weather on Sat Jan 19,
participated in the Minto Mad Dogs Tournament in Harriston.
The first game matched Walkerton Larsen's against Dundalk. With the 1st
period scoreless, John Ringel, unassisted started off the scoring at the
top  of the 2nd period. Dundalk came back to earn their only goal of the game
with Lance Rock hot on the heels of that tie up scored unassisted to put
Walkerton ahead. The Larsen team dominated the 3rd with goals by Mark
Wilken, Brendan Carmount and a last minute of play goal by John Ringel to
take the win 5-1. Assisting the scorers, with great plays were Josh
Hamilton,, Mark Fischer,Matt McArthur and Lance Rock.

The second game of the tourney; Larsen's met with a hard hitting team from
Bradford who started the scoring late in the 1st. Excellent teamwork and
goal keeping by Jonah Hudson held the 2nd period scoreless. After many
scoring opportunities, Lance Rock finally broke through unassisted to tie
the game for Walkerton mid way through the 3rd. With each team pushing
till  the end, it was for certain we were heading to overtime. With only 20
seconds left on the clock, a shot broke through the defence giving the
Bradford team the victory of a well fought game. Final score 2-1.

The final game of the day to determine the B Division champions was a
match  up of Larsen's and Woolwich 2. Despite fatigue, Larsen's came out strong
with John Ringel assisted by Brendan Carmount to start the
scoring.Woolwich  dominated the 2nd period by scoring 3 of their 4 goals, but Mark Wilken
assisted by Lance Rock helped to keep Walkerton alive in the 2nd ending
that  period 4-2. The Walkerton Team, encouraged by their family and friends
cheering in the stands were sparked to life again. At the top of the 3rd,
Lance Rock went end to end unassisted to secure another point. A
magnificent  play set up by Lance Rock to John Ringel with 2 minutes left sent the game
into overtime to determine the winner. The captain of the Woolwich team
made  his way to clinch the victory for his Woolwich 2 Team. Final score in
Overtime 5-4.
It was a great day with the 8 evenly matched teams playing fast and
exciting  hockey.
