Bantam local league Tournament
Bantam local league Tournament On Saturday November 17th, 2007 the Walkerton PWU Bantam Boys were in action in a tournament held in Walkerton. Their first game was at 8:00am against St.Mary’s. Despite hard work defending and having some great offence they lost 3 to 1 and went to the ‘B’ side. The bright spot in that game was the one goal scored by Logan Kritz. The other bright spot in this game was the outstanding forechecking by the forwards Derek Al, Steve Lang, and Joseph Moran. The second game was much better, with the PWU local team pulling off a victory over CMR, the other Walkerton Bantam team, 3 to 1. A great fast paste game kept the fans cheering all the way through the game. Scoring for PWU was Keagan Engel, Daniel Ritter and Nick Schmidt. The assist came from Kyle Scheuerman, Justus Hickey and Derek Merchant. The speed was also a factor in the game and led to many odd man rushes for PWU. Chris Flett made some great saves to keep them up by two in the final minutes of the game. They would find out later in the day that they would be playing Barrie in the ‘B‘ final game. The final game of the weekend for our local PWU team would see Derek Merchant and Kyle Scheuerman net a goal each in the first period. Barrie also netted one to make it 2 to 1 at the end of the first. The second period began with a bang with Walkerton coming out skating hard, playing their positions resulting in Nick Schmidt scoring with 40.5 second left. The 3rd was very much the same but Barrie would score first in the third making it 3 to 2 before the 5 minute mark. PWU remained strong with Flett making some very huge saves to keep them in the game. With 3:27 remaining in the game Kritz netted a insurance goal putting them up 4 to 2. Assists were given to Braden O’Hagan, Scott Markauskas(2), Merchant(2) and Hickey The boys never looked back and won the Bronze medal to become the ‘B’ side champions.
