Kinettes Defeat Mount Forest
Despite hopes of more game action this past week. the Walkerton Capitals (Kinettes) midget B girls hockey team only had the one game. January 6 the team participated in Mount Forest's weekend-long Reeves Cup in which Walkerton teams play Mount Forest team exclusively.

Adding to the fun of the two centres matching skills during the games (Mount Forest is a midget C team), each squad also took part in a mini skills competition before the beginning of their game.
    In the three skill set up by organizers, namely, hardest shot, accuracy and fastest skater, the midget Bs were able to snag bragging rights to the hardest shot with Robin Harper's shot being clocked at 53 kph and Holly Cameron legged out back-to-back runs to beat out her opponent in the fastest skate.
    After the puck was dropped at centre ice each team fought hard to gain the upper hand and play was exciting. Three minutesinto the game, Walkerton's Meghan Lennox was able to sneak in goal number one after a sweet set-up from Kyla Johnston and Richelle Busby. Lots of digging in the corners and skating hard by both teams followed but Walkerton, once again, was able to cash that hard work in. With 6 seconds left in the first period. Walkerton's defnece took charge with Janna Reading feeding Maria Kutnz who tapped in the second marker.
    Down two gaols, Mount Forest scrambled to regain their footing but tonight it was not meant to be. Walkerton was able tos core another in the second period to pad the score 3-0. lauren Bell snapped thisone past the Mount Forest netminder with assistance from Katrina Grubb and Reading
    Mount Forest watched hopes ofa  comeback drift away in the final period as the fit Walkerton midget Bs continued their attacks on teh Mount Forest net and dominated play. At 3:22, Busby accepted assistance from Kutnz and Lennox to take the score to 4-0. the final blow came with 21 seconds left on the clock as Claire Ashton tapped in the fifth and final Walekrtno goal. Assists were gained with a lightning-fast pass from Harper and Colleen Parks.
    The next game on the schedulethis week for the Walkerton Capitals (Kinettes) midget B girls' hockey team is a home-ice match-up January 13 agains the Ripley Wolves midget Cs. believe it or not folks, but hockey season are winding down all across Ontario and Provincial playdowns begin February 1. Grab your mittens and head on down to your local rink to watch your local athletes compete.
