Larsen Girls Win Silver at International Silver Stick
The Larsen Bantam girls played in the International Silver Stick Tournament in Trenton and brought home the silver medals.  With only ten skaters, they played six entertaining games.  In all of the games, the girls fought hard, dug deep and battled to the bitter end.  They can be very proud of their accomplishments throughout the entire tournament.

The first game had the girls facing off against Castor River.  Both teams were ready for the tournament as most of the play was back and forth. Great speed on offence and quick to react on defence.  The girls were ahead and could not find the empty net, as Castor River tied up the game in the dying seconds.  The final score of the game was 2-2.  Scoring goals for Walkerton were Ashton Nixon and Missy Adams.  Assisting on the goals were Sarah Biesenthal and Emalee Haight.  Ashton Nixon was named MVP for the game.

The next opponent was Petrolia.  The girls were frustrating their opposition in all areas of this game, as they beat Petrolia 9-0.  All of the girls made the score sheet this game.  Emalee Haight lead the scorers with three.  Single goal scores were Missy Adams, Katrina Young, Joelle Busby, Sarah Biesenthal, Ashton Nixon and Destiny Berberich.  Assists were recorded by, Jamie Van Loon, Lauren McLean and Katrina Wyatt.  Micaela Stutzki earned the shut out.  Emalee Haight received MVP honours for the game.

The third game pitted the Walkerton team against the host team, Cold Creek.  It was the first game of the morning and both teams were moving at the same pace.  Both teams had scoring chances and there were many great defensive plays.  Both teams were rewarded for their efforts with a 0-0 tie.  Alyssa Inglis was rewarded for her efforts for keeping the girls in the game, as she was named the MVP.

Still in round robin play, the girls played against Wilmont.  The girls played a solid game and won 3-0.  They started out slowly but by the second period they started to show their scoring touch.  Missy Adams lead the way with two goals and Destiny Berberich netted the other goal.  Assists were handed out to Emalee Haight, Lauren McLean, Katrina Young, Joelle Busby and Ashton Nixon.  Missy Adams was the MVP for the game.

After ending up first in their pool, the girls played against Smith Falls.  The girls were up for the challenge and dominated most of the game.  Crisp passing and sharp shooting accounted for all of the goals. The final score was 3-0 for the Walkerton team.  Scoring two goals were Missy Adams and a single marker came from Ashton Nixon.  Assists on the goals came from Destiny Berberich, Emalee Haight,  Jamie Van Loon and Sarah Biesenthal.  Solid game in net from Alyssa Inglis.  Destiny Berberich was named MVP for her efforts.

The final match of the tournament saw Walkerton against Mount Forest.  There were many battles along the boards and everyone worked hard to control the puck.  Mount Forest opened the scoring on a good shot that deflected past Micaela Stutzki.  Not to be out done, the girls worked hard and had numerous scoring chances.  The girls did manage to put one past the Mount Forest goalie, but unfortunately, it did not count.  The girls were unable to beat the goalie again and ended up losing the game 1-0.  Katrina Wyatt was named MVP for the game.

Overall, an outstanding effort and a fine display of grit and determination by every player all weekend.  Every player skated hard and gave everything that they had. Both goalies always kept the team in every game.  A special thanks to Joelle Busby for helping out the girls this weekend. Coaches and parents are proud of your efforts. Congratulations girls.
