Leo Al Girls win silver at Simcoe tournament
The Leo Al girls travelled to Simcoe on the weekend of Feb. 13-15, where they had a very successful tournament.
The girls played Ancaster Maroon in their first game, winning 2-1. Scoring the goals for Walkerton were Carolyn Gray and Jenah VanLoon. Emily Cormack was picked the game MVP.
Walkerton played a Hamilton team in their second game, but despite playing a strong game, lost 2-0. VanLoon was the MVP for this game. In their final game of round robin play, Walkerton dominated the Burlington Pythons, winning 3-0. Scoring goals were Hayley Thede, Hanna McAskill and VanLoon. Assists went to Carly Morris(2), and Kerrigan Huber. Monica Fritz was the deserving MVP for this game.
In the final Championship game, the girls played their rivals from Kincardine. Walkerton fell behind 3-0 at the start, but played with determination and heart. They closed the gap with 2 goals in the third. Scoring goals were Huber and Fritz. Assists went to Morris(2), Thede and Gray. Congratulations, girls!
