Juvenile - International Silver Stick Champions!!
What a great team effort to end off the weekend!
From the first puck drop the John Ernewein juveniles executed the same relentless forecheck pressure on Lincoln as they did in the round robin game until the Capitals received their first penalty at the 14:24 mark. The aggressive penalty killing style of the team finally paid off for the team when Kyle Parks intercepted a Lincoln pass and walked in on a breakaway and buried the first goal of the game short handed at 13:26. The offensive zone forecheck continued but so did the penalties as the Capitals were assessed three more times in the opening frame. Not to be denied, the team penalty kill went to work again and scored a second short handed marker, again from Parks, at the 7:37 mark with Steve Thompson picking up the assist. Finally getting back to five on five hockey the guys got their third goal of the period from Jake Barclay with helpers going to Scott Fidler and Kurt Petrik to end the period with a 3 - 0 lead. Executing good positioning, strong puck movement and continued forecheck pressure the guys hit the iron multiple times but could not bury anymore goals. Lincoln was never able to create any kind of a sustained attack or generate many good quality scoring chances as the Capitals played a full 45 minute game and dominated from start to finish to earn the 3 - 0 win and the first juvenile International Silver Stick title since 2001! Congratulations guys on a great weekend!!
